From Halifax, Nova Scotia...

A water colour artist is moved by the horrors of HIV/AIDS in Africa...

Dear Stephen Lewis Foundation;

I was flying back from Montreal to Halifax early December [2003] when Stephen Lewis filled the screen on the overhead monitors.  It was very difficult to watch Mr. Lewis describe the horrors or HIV/AIDS in Africa, but at the same I knew I had to do something.

I have always believed that the status of women in a society reveals the society, and HIV/AIDS in Africa is inflicting a horrendous toll on African women, their children and communities.  It was at that moment that I decided to donate 10% of proceeds from the sale of my art work to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

This decision is also an inspiration for me to pick up the brush continuously!  Thanks for making me realize how fortunate I am.

Regards,

Andrea Pottyondy
