Toronto, Canada — Ms. Jackie Flanagan, founding editor of Alberta Views, a monthly magazine, has contributed one million dollars to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) to be used "on behalf of the women of Africa." The donation was made through the financial conversion of shares.
“We are filled with admiration and gratitude for this remarkably generous gift,” said Ilana Landsberg-Lewis, Executive Director of SLF. “It’s immensely encouraging when people come forward in this fashion.”

The donation will be used to provide medical supplies and train nurses who bring care and dignity to women who are struggling with HIV/AIDS. The funds will enable training for community workers who wash, feed, and comfort women in distress. An estimated 90% of AIDS care is provided at home, often by older women. Funds will also go towards educating family members about proper care for those infected, as well as counselling them on how to deal with stigma and discrimination in their communities.
