The 13th Christmas Benefit at the Rivoli, hosted by Mia Sheard
Back to December 2008 Events
December 19th & 20th, 2008
The Rivoli (334 Queen St. W.)
Toronto, Ontario
Annual benefit featuring well-known comedians and musicians, in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
This humble benefit began 13 years ago when Toronto singer/songwriter Tamara Williamson thought it would be fun to throw an "office party" for her musical community, while at the same time raising money for charity. Members of the Barenaked Ladies, Rheostatics, Skydiggers, along with Sean Cullen, Ron Sexsmith and other Toronto celebs were happy to offer their time by singing a seasonal song, performing stand up, or sitting in on an instrument. That first party turned out to be a serendipitous success, so Tamara and her friends have held one each year since - to sold out audiences. Artists such as Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean, Hawksley Workman and Bob Snider have each done the show more than once.
Two years ago, Tamara handed the show over to local singer/songwriter Mia Sheard. With a line-up around the block, and too many people unable to get into last year's show, Mia has decided to add a second night this year. This way, hardcore fans can come twice, and more people will have a chance to come see what the show's all about!
The line up so far this year won't let anyone down. Comedians Colin Mocherie and Debra McGrath (Little Mosque on the Prairie), Justin Rutledge, Tony Dekker (Great Lake Swimmers), Oh Susanna, Ron Sexsmith and Bob Snider are just a few of the artists confirmed to perform. More to be announced in the weeks to come!
Tickets: $15 and bring some non-perishables if you can.
Tickets are available at the door only. Doors open at 8pm; show at 9pm. It's advisable to come early to get a seat!
