Thousands of people are holding events across Canada to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic and raise funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports community-based oroganizations that are turning the tide of HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

Ride to Turn the Tide

Ottawa Valley

The Ride to Turn the Tide is a 3 day bike tour covering over 270km in the Ottawa Valley. It is organized by the Grassroot Grannies to raise funds and awareness for the Grandmothers Campaign.  This year, 25 participants are hoping to surpass last year's total of $29,000. Annual Dreams Dinner and Dance

Gathering for Grannies presents their Annual Dreams Dinner and Dance in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation!  Come out an enjoy cocktails, a buffet, dancing to Diane Williamson, and a dreams table at the Dalewood Golf Club in Port Hope, Ontario. Grandparents' Day Tea

The Petawawa Grannies are selling tickets for and hosting this event in partnership with Allegro Retirement Residences (Pembroke Heritage Manor). In addition to the tea, there will be a silent auction and entertainment including readings, slides of Africa with commentary, drummers, and Jabula music. Special thanks to the Town of Petawawa which has waived all fees regarding rental and assistance with the event.

The Nelson Grans to Grans will be hosting their own booth at the Harrop Fall Fair.  Crafts specially made by the grandmothers will be available for sale.  There will be lots of food, games, entertainment and fun to be had!  Come out to support the Nelson Grans to Grans.  Proceeds will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support grandmothers turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Grandmothers by the Lake are hosting an African Dinner Party at Trinity United Church Hall in Verona, Ontario. $25 tickets must be purchased in advance. The dinner starts a 6 pm and it promises to be an evening of delicious Afrtican cuisine and live entertainment.

Horizon 2067: the Plan for Canada's Capital

Horizons 2067: the Plan for Canada's Capital is a public event and includes speakers such as our very own Stephen Lewis, best-selling author and creative thinker Richard Florida, city and mobility analyst George Hazel, and artist Florence K.  These speakers will discuss their views for creating a more vibrant capital that is representative of all Canadians.  Remarks from the panellists will be followed by a discussion moderated by Radio-Canada personality Rebecca Makonnen.  A keynote address will be delivered by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon.
