Thousands of people are holding events across Canada to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic and raise funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports community-based oroganizations that are turning the tide of HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Ride to Turn the Tide is a 3 day bike tour covering over 270km in the Ottawa Valley. It is organized by the Grassroot Grannies to raise funds and awareness for the Grandmothers Campaign. This year, 25 participants are hoping to surpass last year's total of $29,000. To support this event, go to www.grassrootgrannies.com and follow the links to the ride.

The Petawawa Grannies are selling tickets for and hosting this event in partnership with Allegro Retirement Residences (Pembroke Heritage Manor). In addition to the tea, there will be a silent auction and entertainment including readings, slides of Africa with commentary, drummers, and Jabula music. Special thanks to the Town of Petawawa which has waived all fees regarding rental and assistance with the event.

The Shellbrook Grandmothers for Grandmothers are hosting a Grandparents Day Dare to Dine! A tasty blend of local and African foods will be served and the program will be celebrating the indomitable grandmothers in Africa. Bags of frozen Saskatoon berries will also be available for purchase.

Proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of grandmothers and the children in their care turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The Albright Gardens Grandmothers are featuring a concert with the Cricket Vocal Ensemble.
Cricket Vocal Ensemble is a small vocal ensemble that can move you by its beauty and bring you fun and joy in the next piece. They draw music from varied styles of jazz, folk, pop, gospel and standard choral works. They perform mostly a cappella or with piano and in the past with a jazz trio and symphony orchestra.
Taking place at Trinity United Church in Beamsville, entrance is by donation. All proceeds to the Grandmothers Campaign.

Horizons 2067: the Plan for Canada's Capital is a public event and includes speakers such as our very own Stephen Lewis, best-selling author and creative thinker Richard Florida, city and mobility analyst George Hazel, and artist Florence K. These speakers will discuss their views for creating a more vibrant capital that is representative of all Canadians. Remarks from the panellists will be followed by a discussion moderated by Radio-Canada personality Rebecca Makonnen. A keynote address will be delivered by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon.
