To date, Aeroplan and its members have contributed nearly 20 million miles to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF).
The remarkable generosity of donors through the Beyond Miles program has enabled the Foundation to pay for more than 100 flights over the past year.
In May 2007, donated miles were used to bring nine African grandmothers and two project facilitators to Toronto for the premiere of A Generation of Orphans, a half-hour documentary directed by Liz Marshall for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Following the screening, the grandmothers travelled to Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary and Saskatoon to take part in Mother’s Day activities with Canadian grandmothers’ groups. In August 2006, several African grandmothers and project facilitators travelled to Toronto to participate in the Grandmothers’ Gathering through the Beyond Miles program. Miles have also been used by our African consultants to visit potential grassroots projects and monitor existing initiatives across sub-Saharan Africa.
Founding partners American Express and CIBC have also renewed their donations of 2.1 million miles each to the Beyond Miles program.

About the Beyond Miles Program
In May 2006, the Stephen Lewis Foundation became one of seven charities supported by the Aeroplan Beyond Miles program. Aeroplan donated a million miles to each charity, and Aeroplan members are now able to donate their unused reward miles to the Foundation.
SUPPORTING GRASSROOTS PROJECTS
The Stephen Lewis Foundation currently funds over 150 grassroots projects in 15 countries in sub-Saharan Africa to support women, orphans, grandmothers and people living with HIV/AIDS. All of our projects have been seen first-hand by Stephen Lewis, or by trusted colleagues associated with the Foundation to ensure that funds reach those most in need. We maintain a commitment to ensuring that our administrative costs are as low as possible.
One of the greatest challenges we face in supporting grassroots and community-based projects is the cost of flying our assessors to visit the projects we fund. By donating your Aeroplan reward miles, you can help us reach even more communities affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

If you have questions about donated miles or are having difficulty making an online donation, please call Aeroplan’s customer care number at 1-800-361-5373.
If you do not have internet access or do not wish to donate via the internet, please write a letter to the Foundation indicating:
(1) Your Aeroplan number;
(2) The number of miles that you would like to donate;
(3) Your name printed; and
(4) Your signature
All donations made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation through the Aeroplan website are anonymous. Unfortunately, we are not able to issue a tax receipt for donated miles.
